KIT launches online Materials Database for Sustainable Architecture

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) launched an online Materials Database for its Department of Architecture, integrated into the Materials Library of German Universities (MHD) and focused on sustainable, biodegradable or technically recyclable construction materials. The collection (reopened in 2023 after refurbishment by Studio-MRA) provides lifecycle/origin information, high-quality photos and manufacturer-independent data sheets and was prepared over two years.

EU e-waste collection lags new electronics placed on market

Eurostat published 2023 EU data showing 11.6 kg of e-waste collected per person versus 32.2 kg of new electrical and electronic equipment placed on the market, a 20.6 kg difference. Between 2015 and 2023 new EEE per person rose 78% (18.1 kg to 32.2 kg) while e-waste collection rose 60% (7.3 kg to 11.6 kg), with country highlights including Netherlands (45.4 kg EEE) and Bulgaria (17.9 kg both).
