Coalition backs Google's first NG+CCS project for data centers
The Carbon Capture Coalition praised Google’s announcement to purchase power from a new natural gas-fired plant developed by Low Carbon Infrastructure at Broadwing in Decatur, Illinois, with CO2 to be stored at ADM’s Class VI well. The statement noted projected electricity demand growth of 35–40% by 2040 and that ADM has stored more than 3.5 million metric tons of CO2.
Heimdall Power and Puget Sound Energy launch DLR project
Heimdall Power is installing 75 Neurons across 100 miles of transmission lines for Puget Sound Energy in western Washington as the largest DLR deployment in the U.S. PSE will evaluate the system through summer 2026 to guide future grid planning and wider implementation.
South Korea launches strategy to secure critical minerals supply
South Korea announced a national strategy to secure critical minerals by boosting domestic production, recycling, and international partnerships, targeting over 300,000 tonnes/year of domestic production by 2028 and increasing recycling rates to 20% by 2030. Key projects include POSCO Future M’s 45,000 t/year NMC precursor plant (Gwangyang), planned 120,000 t/year NMC capacity at Saemangeum, KOMIR’s 46% stake in Ambatovy (Madagascar), POSCO’s six-year contract with Syrah Resources for up to 60,000 t/year of graphite, and Korea Zinc’s $85.2 million investment in The Metals Company.
North Macedonia launches first decarbonisation guide for SMEs
The Economic Chamber of North Macedonia, supported by EIB Global and the EU delegation, launched the country’s first digital Decarbonisation Guide for SMEs featuring a carbon-footprint calculator covering nearly 60 energy sources and refrigerants. The interactive platform was unveiled in Skopje to over 100 entrepreneurs and was developed via the ERI Technical Assistance Envelope with EIB Global financing.
South Africa unveils Draft Carbon Markets Framework and Plan
Dr Dion George announced the Draft South African Carbon Markets Framework and a Draft Carbon Credit Revenue Plan to monetise natural assets and scale high-integrity carbon markets in South Africa. The plan references the Ten Million Trees Programme, REDD+, 3,000 kilometres of coastline for Blue Carbon, pilot projects, and an inter-agency implementation approach aligned with Article 6 and the Paris Agreement.
